American Classic

For a weekend at the Hamptons I am loving this retro looking editorial photographed by the wonderful Arthur Elgort for American Vogue. Jacquetta Wheeler looking like the girl next door has the perfect outfit for every possible activity for a chic and stylish getaway at the Hamptons.

Beach Bungalow

Shabby Chic

LOVING THIS BEACH BUNGALOW A LOT...
~ especially the outdoor shower!

I have always been a fan of shabby chic style -
it's one of those styles that works equally well on the coast
as it does in the country.
There's something cosy and comfiorting about slip-covered sofas,
worn painted vintage pieces and rustic charm!

Paradise Found

Now that winter has set in
with chilly days and cold nights
my thoughts are drifting to
faraway, exotic places
where the weather is warm
and the evenings are balmy!

Loving these chic and stylish resort pieces

Beach House Decorating Ideas

Here are a few clever decorating ideas for giving your house some coastal chic!

Under the Sea

Create a gallery wall with simple identical frames with a nautical bases theme - drawings, photos or 3d real life seaside objects will all work equally well.

An Assortment of Texture

A variety of fabrics yield the relaxed atmosphere synonymous with beach style. A serene blue painting evokes visions of the ocean and sky, while on the coffee table, twine balls and distressed accessories add a touch of weathered texture.

Imaginative Displays

Perfect for an entry...

Decorate an entry or hall table with a coastal vignette. Find one commanding object, like a vintage mirror or a nautical print, and surround it with other accessories of varying scale, but similar style.

Boathouse Chic

Blue and white is the quintessential color scheme for any nautical-inspired setting. After the addition of the painted wooden slats to create a focal point in the room a vintage oar was hung above the bed to create added interest without detracting from the feature wall. Striped ticking bedlinen completes this clean, cosy bedroom makeover.

Peaceful Hues

A soothing color palette is essential to any beachy design. Create a relaxed, calming retreat that incorporates colours of the ocean and it's beachside surrounds. Add beach-inspired furnishings, glass bottles, natural textures and beautiful white shells to complete the look.

From the Seashore

Nice details

Swapping elements on a mantel display with the season breathes fresh life into your space. Create a breezy, seaside vignette of coral, seashells, candles and driftwood. Keep the arrangement and palette simple for the best results.

Casually Chic

Use a base palette of crisp white for walls, ceilings, even floorboards then dress up sofas and armchairs with white slipcovers. Add wooden textures like the teak coffee table and the recylced wooden box to give it a natural, organic feel. A sisal rug lays the foundation for this refreshingly casual 'Shabby Chic' style living room. Green glass bottles, a vintage maritime map and a cane pendant add the finishing touches.

Natural Additions

Natural textures and a tropical spirit make woven accessories the perfect addition to laid-back beachy vibe. Create a coastal feel with organic fibers such as cane, rattan, bamboo and sisal. Here we see them used in pendant lights, bar stools and placemats to create a relaxed feel.

Seaside Luxe

Add a little seaside luxe! From the shell pendant, to the free standing bath and the fabulous ocean view, this stunning bathroom is refined and luxurious but simple and beachy at the same time.

Rustic Style

French Provincial Style

Although this is a lake house and not a beach house
there are still plenty of clever ideas to borrow and inspire!
The textures, colours, finishes and styling
would work equally well in a Hamptons style house
as they would in this French lakeside retreat.
I love the soaring ceilings, rustic timbers
and subdued, neutral colours.

I can also see myself having a good soak in that fabulous bath tub!

The Art Of Framing

Here are some interesting ideas for creating gallery-like picture walls. The idea is great in theory but can ending up looking a bit of a mismatch if you don't stick to a few simple guidelines. I always suggest you keep it to a simple colour combination - black and white is an obvious choice but the results are always successful. It's best to stick to one colour mount card - white of course and one single colour for the frames. Then to create interest vary the size and type of the frames and the size of the finished artwork. Then fun is then all in the hanging!
